Comparison of ID Theft Protection Companies
Each of the companies compared were done so based on information gathered from their respective websites. Several other factors played a role in deciding which of the companies offered the most value, including monitoring specific areas associated with identity theft and offering additional services.
Based on our research, here are our picks for the best identity theft protection companies (first to last):
1. LifeLock – Because LifeLock offers the most coverage at the lowest price, we selected this company as the best identity theft protection company. In addition to the above mentioned services, LifeLock offers credit card monitoring and consumer credit reports, plus payday loan, sex offender registry, and public record alerts with LifeLock Command Center® membership.
2. ProtectMyID.com – We chose ProtectMyID.com as second best because they too offer the most important services at the right price. For less than $10 per month, customers receive credit card protection, address safeguarding, and several additional protection programs not detailed above, including ChildeSecure℠ and lost wallet protection for misused or stolen credit and debit cards.
3. Identity Guard – Coming in third place is Identity Guard. We like this company because they offer multiple levels of protection coverage intended to meet specific needs, different levels of credit fraud risk, and pocketbook concerns of customers. Premium membership includes ID Vault®, Mobile LockBox®, and PrivacyProtect® in addition to the standard identity detection and prevention services.
4. TrustedID – Even though TrustedID provides two levels of coverage designed to meet different consumer needs, they didn’t appear to offer some of the services in which many people are looking for, such as providing credit reports and identity theft resolution services. However, TrustedID does offer the lowest cost for identity theft protection, making this company a good choice for those who are seeking minimum coverage.
5. ID Watchdog – While ID Watchdog offers the services that are necessary for securely preventing and protecting against identity theft crimes, they charge nearly twice as much as similar service providers and don’t offer a guarantee that we could find.
