LifeLock was founded in 2005 by Tod Davis as a company that offers personal fraud and identity theft protection services. In 2008, LifeLock and TransUnion, one of the three major credit bureaus in the U.S., entered into an agreement that automatically alerts customers of fraudulent activity on their credit report.

Overview
LifeLock is a leader in identity theft protection, and one of the most recognizable names in the industry. For right around $10 per month, customers can use LifeLock to be alerted when someone tries to use their personal information in a fraudulent manner. Optional service packages offer customers different levels of protection that ranges from irregular internet activity to falsified court records bearing your name.
The LifeLock Identity Alert™ system involves notifying LifeLock customers by email, mail, and/or by telephone whenever the company becomes aware of someone using your information to make a purchase using your credit.
eRecon™ is LifeLock’s program that will constantly crawl the internet for any one, or any website, that has obtained your personal information and is trying either use, sell, or trade it illegally. If improper use of your information is taking place, LifeLock will immediately notify you and provide you with helpful steps for resolving the issue.
Another nice service provided by LifeLock is there TrueAddress™ program. If someone has used your identity, but not your address (often a reason why people don’t find out about identity theft until it’s too late), the company will detect if an address change is fraudulent by comparing the information to a national database of addresses.
