Overview
LendingTree.com is a web-based service that provides consumers with competing offers provided by multiple financial organizations. LendingTree offers rate comparisons on refinance loans, mortgage loans, home equity loans, automotive loans, automotive insurance, homeowner’s insurance, health insurance, and life insurance. In addition, LendingTree allows consumers to search for credit card companies based upon interest rates, airline credit cards, business cards, student cards, and points rewards cards to name a few.

When applying for a refinance loan, mortgage loan, or home equity loan, simply fill out the secure online request form and you will receive offers from up to 4 lenders. With this information you can compare each loan, the terms of the loan, and then select the loan the meets your specific needs. LendingTree regularly provides special offers from many of the leading financial organizations and through partner sites, which includes several major airlines.

LendingTree offers a variety of resources for buyers that includes research materials, news articles, general advice, and finance calculators. Paid membership with LendingTree offers unlimited credit reporting on all 3 national credit reporting agencies, plus email alerts for suspicious activity. Additional services include identity theft protection, free moving quotes, reverse mortgage loans, extended automotive warranties, personal loans, and student loans.

Tree.com provides borrowers with an array of loan options, real estate services, and insurance products through LendingTree, iNest, RealEstate.com, and GetSmart.com. LendingTree is Tree.com’s most prominent company, which helps provide borrowers with comparative loan offers from industry leaders, including CitiFinancial and Bank of America. In addition, LendingTree offers automotive loans and markets credit cards. Borrowers are provided these services at no cost from LendingTree.com, lenders on the other hand are charged a corporate participant transaction fee upon the submission of a loan application and again at closing.

Tree.com CEO Doug Lebda founded LendingTree in 1996. In 2003, IAC/InterActiveCorp (IAC) was acquired and in 2008 IAC spun off LendingTree, HSN (Home Shopping Network), Ticketmaster, and Interval Leisure Group.

As part of the spinoff, Tree.com was developed with the intention of operating LendingTree, and its related lending and real estate interests, as a separate publicly traded company. Subsidiaries of Tree.com include LendingTree Loans and HomeLoanCenter.com which originates home loans then processes and approves them. LendingTree Settlement Services provides residential mortgage loan settlement services. Tree.com also offers educational loans through DegreeTree.com, which also offers an online comparison of programs, courses, and degree requirements from several top schools.

Tree.com operates about 20 office locations throughout the US under RealEstate.com, which is a website service that helps to match home-buyers and home-sellers with real estate agencies. iNest provides new home information, including new communities and new home builders.

Due to the subprime mortgage crisis, Tree.com has diversified its service offerings. In 2009 Tree.com acquired Done Right!, which is a website directory of home improvement professionals, and LeadRelevance, a direct marketing firm that specializes in lead generation in the for-profit education market. Tree.com plans to expand student lending and insurance offerings.
